Introduction

In 2002 it was agreed that the Trust would focus its activities on supporting primary and secondary education and the training and development of teachers across the Commonwealth. This was endorsed by Ministers of Education at their conference in 2003 and by Heads of Government at CHOGM in Abuja.

The Trust has recently created the Centre for Commonwealth Education as a joint venture with Cambridge University. It is intended that the Centre, still in its formative stage, will combine the academic excellence of the University as a premier centre for educational research and teacher training in the United Kingdom with the international reach and influence of the Trust.

The Trust is a registered charity and it is therefore also able to attract private contributions to help it advance its activities. Following a contribution from the distinguished Australian citizen, Mr Malcolm Freake, the Trust formed a subsidiary company in Australia and established the LOOK Project to investigate the effects of physical activity on children in primary schools. This project is under the guidance of an eminent international academic committee chaired by Dr Peter Frost.
